Blenheim

The Blenheim Cavalier has a rich chestnut marking on a white background. Some Blenheim Cavaliers have a spot in the middle of thier forehead. This spot is called the Blenheim spot and also the mark of the Duchess Thumb print. This is based on a legend about Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough. The legend states while awaiting news of her husband's safe return from the Battle of Blenheim, she had pressed the head of an expecting female Cavalier with her thumb, which resulted in five puppies having the lucky Blenheim spot after she received the news that the battle had been won.

Ruby

The solid rich brown or reddish-brown that has no white spots is the Ruby Cavalier King Charles. Some may have a little white in their coats on the chest which is beautiful on the cavaliers, but is considered a fault under AKC conformation show rules.

Black & Tan

The Black and Tan is referred to as "King Charles". The Black and Tan Cavaliers are adorned with medium-length,  silky coats that are sometimes slightly wavy.  Adult Cavaliers have feathering or longer hair on their chest, legs, feet, ears and tail.  The Black and Tan have black bodies with tan eyebrows, legs, cheeks, and beneath the tail. The brown above the eyes give the Black and Tan his sweet expressions.

Things to Know

Cavalier pups weigh between 5-12oz at birth.  So picture a cup and your pup will fit into that!  Between 8-12 weeks, when they go home with their forever family, they should be between 4-5lbs. They grow to be the perfect size lap dog with an average adult height of 12-13 inches tall as measured across the top of their shoulders, while their adult weight averages from 13 to 18lbs.

Cavaliers are a long haired breed and as you've noticed Daisy does not have lots of fur.  We prefer to keep her coat short.  The longer coats are beautiful but be aware that they shed moderately year round.  This is why we choose a shorter doggie doo.  We keep her coiffed so that we can keep our home tidy too.
